Muslim Clerics Silence French Mime…
Remember the riots in France two falls ago? Well, I just read on AP Newswire that they’re at it again! Here’s a photo taken last night in a Paris suburb of a couple of firemen trying to put out a burning car.
Last time the riots were sparked by two youths who accidentally got electrocuted while fleeing police in the Paris suburb of Clichy-sur-Bois.
This time, however, the cause was quite different.
Yesterday’s riots were started when two muslim clerics thought a French mime was mocking their religion. The article I read was not too clear on how the mime was mocking them, but apparently these guys got a little bent out of shape.
One of them, the younger one, told the mime in no uncertain terms to stop miming. When the mime did not respond except with more miming, the younger one got enraged and punched the mime in the face.
The next sequence of events is a little sketchy, but putting together several articles and some blog posts mentioning this, I think both of the clerics attacked the mime. The problem was the mime was an ex-paratrooper, and as such had received training in hand-to-hand combat. He apparently beat up his two assailants pretty badly. The older one had to be hospitalized.
All of this apparently happened around lunchtime. It didn’t take long for the news to spread throughout the whole region, though. By nightfall, the marginalized french youths were at it again, looting, burning cars, setting fires to day care centers and hospitals that specialize in patient’s with advanced Tourette’s syndrome.
Some good did, however, come out of this.
France’s prime minister got on national TV and stated that the violence would not be tolerated this time. (At least, not very much.)
He said, and I quote:
“French mimes shall never be silenced!”
