A Must Read!

Tuesday, July 17th, 2007

I subscribe to Steve Olson’s blog because he always writes stuff that’s interesting, and every now and then he writes a post that’s a blockbuster!

Well, he’s written another blockbuster.

I’m not even going to tell you what it’s about.

Just go read it.

(Hint: It could change your children’s lives!)

Maybe It’s Time You Got A MySpace Account!

I’m constantly amazed at what parents don’t know about their children.

It ain’t like when you and I were kids. When you’re not watching them, your children aren’t just sitting at home in front of the television looking at Leave It To Beaver.

As a public school teacher, I suspect I know quite a bit more about what your kids are doing than you do. What they are actually up to would shock you.

She Thinks My Tractor’s Sexy!

Monday, April 30th, 2007

Much to our horror, my wife’s aunt gave our twin children each a radio a couple of years ago for Christmas. We monitor our children’s media consumption very carefully! Let me tell you how strict we are.

How To Trade In Your Wife For A Newer Model…(without paying any alimony!)

Tuesday, April 24th, 2007

Look, I’ve been married for quite a few years. And, brother, I know the score.

Biologically, men are made for three things 1) killing large animals and bringing them home to feed the family, 2) killing predators both animal and human in order to protect the family, and 3) making babies!

So, you’ve been doing the 21st century version of this for the past few years, and…well, it’s tough for a guy!

Uncle Absolutelee understands!

Reply To A Great Comment

Monday, April 23rd, 2007

Chris Campa whose blog is The Oridinary Mystic (well worth reading!) commented on my last entry about the Virginia Tech shooting. Chris’ comments and his blog are always well thought through. So, instead of giving him a more cursory reply. I decided to reply to him in this post.

Why Everyone Is Asking The Wrong Questions About Virginia Tech…

Thursday, April 19th, 2007

I really don’t like to listen to bad news unless I need to to know facts to keep myself and my family safe. If there’s a hurricane out in the Atlantic and I’m in a house on the coast, I want to know all the details–where it is, how strong it is, when is it going to make landfall.

I’ve tried not to listen to broadcasts about Cho Seung-Hui, the assassin at Virginia Tech. The story has gotten to me anyway. What strikes me about the media coverage is how they basically keep asking the question–how could this have been avoided? How can it be avoided in the future?

The answer is it couldn’t have been avoided, but so many lives did not have to be lost. Let me explain.

Homeschooling Is Big!

Tuesday, April 17th, 2007

In my last post, I talked about how I view homeschooling vs. how educators in general view it. Here’s a great blog carnival on the subject of homeschooling. There, you’ll find a wealth of opinions, ideas, and how-to’s on the subject.

Homeschooling is big and getting bigger as educated Americans wake up to the inherent problems with public, mass schooling. If you have kids or are thinking of having children, this should be an alternative worth considering.

It’s Way Past My Bedtime, But…

I’m stoked!

My most popular post, How To Turn Your Daughter Into A Whore In Two Easy Steps, was accepted in the Carnival of Education on The Education Wonks blog. I would like also to mention, Matt Johnston’s blog, Going to the Mat, where he’s pulled out a few of the entries that might interest his readers. Take a look at both these blogs! They’re well worth the time.

Didn’t You Know? Monsters Never Wear Pants!

Sunday, April 8th, 2007

I’ll be the first to admit, my children know more about some things than I do. Now, I’m not saying they’re smarter. They might be or they might not be. I’m a pretty smart guy. But then again, they’re my kids! I’m just saying they have a connection with wisdom beyond their years.
