I’m constantly amazed at what parents don’t know about their children.
It ain’t like when you and I were kids. When you’re not watching them, your children aren’t just sitting at home in front of the television looking at Leave It To Beaver.
As a public school teacher, I suspect I know quite a bit more about what your kids are doing than you do. What they are actually up to would shock you.

Much to our horror, my wife’s aunt gave our twin children each a radio a couple of years ago for Christmas. We monitor our children’s media consumption very carefully! Let me tell you how strict we are.
Chris Campa whose blog is The Oridinary Mystic (well worth reading!) commented on my last entry about the Virginia Tech shooting. Chris’ comments and his blog are always well thought through. So, instead of giving him a more cursory reply. I decided to reply to him in this post.

I’ll be the first to admit, my children know more about some things than I do. Now, I’m not saying they’re smarter. They might be or they might not be. I’m a pretty smart guy. But then again, they’re my kids! I’m just saying they have a connection with wisdom beyond their years.
It’s going on right now! I’ve had the idea for this post for some time. Generally, I’ve got about fifteen posts partially done, and about ten more ideas for posts floating around in my head.
Figuring out what to say is not hard for me. Finding the time and especially the peace to write it in is the hard part.
Last night before I went to bed, I powered up my My Yahoo! and took a look at the recent posts to the blogs I follow. One post specifically caught my attention–blew my sock off, actually. Let me tell you about it.
I actually stole that line. Steve Olson, a blogger, who lives in the upper mid-west, wrote that at the conclusion of an interesting and impassioned post he’s written about how we educate (or fail to educate) our children. Click over to his blog right now and read that post. When you’re done, read a previous post about his own problems in public school.
