I Think We’re Having A Crisis
For some reason, every one thinks all this blog stuff it new! It’s not. It’s just journalism repackaged.
Let me explain…
Check out this post from John Chow.
I didn’t know, but apparently the phrase “linkbait” is passe. (That’s spelled in French, but I don’t know how to get accents in Wordpress. So, there’s an accent over that last “e”.)
Who knew?
Linkbait to blogging is the same thing as a headline is to a newspaper or magazine.

You bet I’m buying that bad boy and taking it home to the missus!
To quote John, linkbait is “writing remarkable content.”
Or how about this excellent post from SEOBook, which is basically about how to write interesting stuff about a topic a lot of other people are writing about.
I’m glad all of this discussion about content is occurring! I get really tired of reading basically the same thing four or five times.
This all gets back to Brand You. Find that, and you won’t have a problem with content.

Blogging is just writing with lots of bells and whistles. So, if you’re going to be a writer, be interesting…at least 85% of the time! ![]()

A good headline is more important than original quality content. It’s psychology.
Even if the content is recycled or stolen, if the header is excellent, the readers will think the same about the content.
The first impression matters the most. It’s hard to gain attention and respect after that…

I think you’re right as far as getting someone’s attention. If you want to build an audience, then I think you need both an attention grabbing headline and copy that is interesting. Great comment! Thanks!

Dude, “Blogging is just writing”, just writing you say?
I bleed, to “just write”.
I don’t know why people get their panties in a twist over linkbait, I think most people don’t actually use the technique effectively. More fool them.
