I Blog, Therefore I Am

When my kids were born, I virtually quit looking at television and movies. Actually, their birth accelerated a trend that had been happening for some time.

A friend asked me the other day: “Where do you get your news? What about entertainment?”

Honestly, I get more news than I want just driving to work and listening to the radio.

As for entertainment, take a look at my schedule in this post. Do you see any time for entertainment?

I find living to be entertaining.

Included in living is writing and of course blogging, which for me is creating, connecting, and especially entertaining. (At least, I hope you’re entertained!)

Every now and then, however, my wife makes me sit on the couch with her and watch either television or a movie. I try not to protest too much. And sometimes, I actually like the movie that she’s picked out.

I really liked the most recent movie we saw: Rocky Balboa.

Look, I liked the other Rocky movies, although they were poorly made.

This movie, Rocky Balboa, however, is a very well made film. The story is moving. The quality of the filming is excellent. In some ways, it reminds me of some of my favorite mid-century Italian films, Vittorio De Sica, for instance.

I’m not going to spoil the movie for you by telling you much about it, but there was a really great part that I want to draw your attention to.

In the movie, Rocky’s son has grown up. He’s trying to climb the social ladder and is ashamed of his working class father. Rocky deals with his son’s embarrassment and disapproval quite well, but there is a scene, when the son visits Rocky’s restaurant that is very telling.

Rocky and the son have a heart to heart conversation outside the restaurant in the middle of the street. Rocky tries to explain to his son why he fights.

He explains his desire to fight as a need to “go toe-to-toe and say ‘I Am.’”

I Am!

Isn’t that why so many of us blog?

Isn’t that why we communicate to begin with?

I blog, therefore I am!

Vaya con Dios!
